It’s a new and exciting time of year—even if winter is still holding on tight. The days are slowly getting longer, the sun feels just a little warmer, and every now and then we catch a glimpse of the spring that’s waiting on the other side of the snowbanks. Of course, we all know the truth… the snowiest, coldest, and most cabin-fever-filled stretch of winter is often still ahead of us.
So instead of just counting down the days, I decided it might be the perfect time to start something new.
Over the years, I’ve been encouraged (and maybe nudged a bit 😉) to share more about life on a hops farm and the outdoor adventures that fill the seasons in between. That idea has grown into a weekly publication focused on all things hops, farming, and the great outdoors.
Being a hops farmer and an avid outdoors person brings a lot of joy to my life. Whether it’s time spent in the fields, watching a crop take shape, planning for the upcoming growing season, or escaping outside to hunt, fish, or get on the ice, these experiences are what keep me grounded, especially during the long winter months. And while I’m no expert, I’ve been fortunate to gain a wealth of hands-on knowledge across many facets of farming, hunting, fishing, and yes… hockey too.
This space will be a place to share stories, lessons learned, observations from the farm, and highlights from the outdoors, both the wins and the learning moments. Some weeks it might be about what’s happening in the hop yard, other weeks it could be a fishing story, a hunting memory, or even a hockey takeaway that somehow ties back to life and work.
Most of all, this is about sharing the journey. About finding a little excitement in the middle of winter, looking ahead to what’s coming next, and celebrating the adventures—big and small, that make this lifestyle so rewarding.
I’m looking forward to bringing some fun, energy, and fresh perspective to the weeks ahead, and I’m excited to see where this adventure takes us.
